A two-vehicle crash shut down a roadway in Robbins Tuesday evening after a call initially reported as an explosion turned out to be a head-on collision. The crash occurred shortly before 7:30 p.m. in the 400 block of Lakey Siding Road and resulted in two people being transported.
Authorities on scene told Sandhills Sentinel that the crash occurred when a Honda Accord traveling north crossed the center line. A southbound Ford Edge swerved in an attempt to avoid the oncoming car but was struck.
The Honda came to rest in the middle of the road, while the Ford ended up approximately 200 feet away and straddling both lanes. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage to the front driver’s side, and each lost its front tire. Airbags deployed in both vehicles, and the windshields were shattered.
Two of the three occupants in the Ford were taken to Moore Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to officials.
The affected section of Lakey Siding Road was completely shut down while the debris was cleaned.
Robbins Fire Department, Moore County EMS, the Moore County Sheriff’s Department, and North Carolina State Highway Patrol all responded to the incident.
