Arrest made following child sexual exploitation report

Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields announced an arrest following an investigation in the West End area of Moore County.

On Nov. 14, the Moore County Sheriff’s Office received a report of sexual exploitation of a minor. After evaluating digital evidence obtained during the initial report, warrants were issued for the arrest of John Cunningham, 44, of Weston, Florida.

Investigators coordinated with multiple agencies to locate and apprehend Cunningham, who was taken into custody in Georgia on Dec. 3. After waiving extradition, Cunningham was returned to North Carolina on Dec. 9 to face charges. These included one count of first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and one count of indecent liberties with a minor. Additional charges are pending further investigation into Cunningham’s activities.

Cunningham is being held at the Moore County Detention Center under a $300,000 secured bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 2, 2025, in Moore County district court.
