Investigation underway in Southern Pines after shooting victim flees to Lobelia

An investigation is underway in Southern Pines after a man was shot at in his car on Friday night. Following the shooting, the victim managed to flee to Lobelia before his car broke down.

The victim told investigators on scene at the Dollar General in Lobelia that he had initially pulled up to a residence on Gaines Street in Southern Pines. The suspect approached his vehicle, and after confronting him, they then attempted to spray him with mace. The victim fled the scene in his car, but the suspect was able to fire several shots into the vehicle, narrowly missing the driver, who was the only occupant.

Damage sustained by the vehicle the victim was driving. 

The victim managed to drive the Audi passenger car to the Dollar General in Lobelia before it overheated and broke down.

Moore County Sheriff’s Office responded along with a detective from the Southern Pines Police Department and performed an investigation.

Investigators told Sandhills Sentinel that units with the Southern Pines Police Department were in the area of Gaines Street where the shooting occurred searching for clues and that this is an ongoing investigation. No further details were released on scene.
