Man arrested for child sex crimes

The Aberdeen Police Department announced the arrest of Charles Owens, 27, of Hertford, on several charges, including child sex crimes.

On Jan. 26, Aberdeen investigators received a report of a missing juvenile.

Aberdeen Investigators responded and began tracking down possible leads of her whereabouts. After further investigation, investigators identified Owens as a person of interest.

“Through the course of the investigation, it was determined that Owens had inappropriate and explicit communications with the juvenile,” said the Aberdeen Police Department in a news advisory on Wednesday. “In collaboration with Army Criminal Investigation Division and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Aberdeen Investigators executed multiple search warrants, and located sufficient evidence to support the charges of abduction of a child, indecent liberties with a child, solicit child by computer, and first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.”

On Feb. 5, at the request of Aberdeen investigators, the Perquimans County Sheriff’s Office arrested Owens on a warrant. He was turned over to the custody of Aberdeen investigators and transported to the Moore County jail, where he received no bond for his charges.
