Harriet Craven, a Moore County resident for 71 years, passed away on July 6, 2020 at First Health Hospice House West End, NC.
She was born August 24, 1948 at Fort Bragg, NC to the late Nancy and Henry Roberts.
Harriet started her working career at the Pinehurst Country Club (Diamond Head) in the 1970s. She was introduced and trained during expansion with computers at that time and became a programmer. Harriet proudly accepted a computer programming position with the Civil service at Fort Bragg, NC and retired 6/30/2011. She was awarded the certificate of appreciation and retirement from the Department of the Army after 30 years of dedicated service.
Harriet loved and cared for her family her entire life. She will always be remembered by her son and daughter by all the love and care she gave them as she always put their happiness and needs before her own. Harriet was very proud and loved her three granddaughters and great grandson. Harriet fell in love with her high school sweetheart John Thomas Craven, III from Aberdeen. They were married in 1967 before John, III volunteered and proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War era. John, III and Harriet lived in Southern Pines their entire married life of 47 years.
Survived by her son John Thomas Craven, IV and her daughter Caroline Elizabeth Craven; sister Nikki and husband Peter Smith; granddaughter Lyla Rose Craven; granddaughter Amelia and husband Nathan, great grandchild Beckett Morton; granddaughter Kaitlyn and husband Nick Oyler.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, July 11th at 11:00 AM at Mount Hope Cemetery in Southern Pines.
