Two vehicle collision causes delays on 15-501

A two-vehicle collision occurred on Highway 15-501 at the Moore County Waste Disposal entrance in Carthage on Thursday evening. The collision occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m., causing traffic in the area to be delayed.

Emergency responders arrived to find a Mercury Grand Marquis down the embankment across from the Waste Disposal entrance. According to authorities on scene, the Grand Marquis pulled out of the Waste Disposal site, failed to see an oncoming GMC Yukon, and was subsequently struck.

The Grand Marquis had moderate rear-end damage, and the air bags had been deployed from impact. The driver was the only occupant of the vehicle.

The Yukon was moved to the shoulder of the 15-501 southbound lane. It sustained minor front-end damage and had been occupied by the driver and a passenger.

Moore County EMS responded to the scene and evaluated all patients. The driver of the Grand Marquis was transported to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver and passenger of the Yukon were not transported.

There was a slight detour around the accident while the scene was investigated, and the Grand Marquis was pulled from the embankment.
