Woman held without bond hit-and-run

A West End woman is being held at the Moore County Detention Center without bond accused of hitting a pedestrian with her vehicle and fleeing the scene Friday around 5:30 p.m.

There was a child in the car with the driver.

Authorities put out an “attempt to locate” on the driver for the domestic incident, according to Chief Deputy Richard Maness of the Moore County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies arrested Mollie Elizabeth Saunders, 29, several hours later at a family member’s home in Candor.

She was booked just after 1 a.m. on charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, felony hit and run resulting in serious bodily injury, assault with a deadly weapon with a minor present, and simple assault.

The incident happened in the 200 block of Beauty Road in West End.

Aircare was initially called and canceled, but it was finally determined a helicopter was needed to transport the victim to an area trauma center.

The condition of the victim is unknown at this time.

Saunders has a July 15 court date and is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
