A driver escaped serious injuries as his car plunged down a twenty foot embankment in a crash Friday morning before sunrise.

The crash happened when the eighteen-year-old driver lost control of his vehicle on U.S. 1 near Grant Road outside of Vass.  His car overturned as it went down the embankment hitting trees.

Cypress Pointe Fire and Rescue and Southern Pines Fire and Rescued assisted in the extraction of the teenager from the car and Moore County EMS transported the victim to Moore Regional Hospital with reported non-life threatening injuries.

Retired Cypress Pointe Firefighter, Frank Staples, said, “This was fortunately a witnessed accident because the care was not visible from U.S. 1.”

Moore County Sheriff Deputies and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol also assisted at the scene.
