A man was killed Saturday morning when his truck overturned in a single-vehicle crash near Vass, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
According to officials, the driver of a Chevrolet pickup was traveling down Holly Street toward Holly Road when he ran off the roadway, crashed through a fence, and entered a field. His truck continued across the field, broke through another fence, and struck an embankment, launching the vehicle into the air. The truck then flipped and came to rest upside down on McInnis Road near its intersection with Holly Road.
Emergency crews from Cypress Pointe Fire and Rescue responded to the scene and found the driver deceased. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
According to the accident report, Richard Yost, 56, of Raeford, was unrestrained, and speed was a factor in the crash.
This marks the second fatal accident covered by Sandhills Sentinel in two weeks, resulting in a total of three deaths.
