Driver leaves scene of crash

A driver left the scene of an accident in the 1500 block of Aiken Road outside of Vass.

Authorities were dispatched to reports of an overturned vehicle around 7 a.m. Monday. According to radio traffic, the caller stated there was an overturned vehicle near Buds Place on Aiken Road. They were unsure if anyone was in the vehicle.

Cypress Pointe Fire and Rescue arrived on the scene and confirmed a minivan was overturned off the roadway, and no one was in or around the vehicle. Keys were in the ignition and the radio was playing.

Fire crews put caution tape on the vehicle, searched a nearby wooded area, and then proceeded to drive down Aiken Road to look for the driver, but no one could be located.

Tire marks on and off the road made it appear that the van crossed the centerline and ran off the left side of the road. Marks led off the right side of the road and back to the left before going into the grass sideways. It appears the van hit a small muddy ditch before turning over onto its roof.

It is unclear what time the accident occurred. Highway Patrol is investigating the accident and who the vehicle belongs to.
