A man from Robbins is behind bars facing two counts of first-degree kidnapping and one count of possession of a firearm on school property, according to a news advisory from the Moore County Sheriff’s Department.
Zackery Sheffield, 28, was arrested on Monday and placed at the Moore County Detention Center under a $400,000 secured bond. He is due in court on Thursday.
“On Monday, November 29, 2021 at approximately 2:45 PM the Moore County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist the Moore County Schools Police with a report of an armed individual at Westmoore Elementary School,” said Sheriff Ronnie Fields. “Responding deputies arrived and detained one male who was unarmed standing outside of his vehicle. During a search of the male’s vehicle, investigators located one handgun. Investigators learned that a female from the same vehicle had approached the school and alerted them that she and a child inside the vehicle had been kidnapped at gunpoint from a residence in Montgomery County. School staff quickly reacted and locked the male out of the school until authorities could arrive.”
Fields said the female knew the suspect and that this was not a random act.
The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
