The driver of a pickup truck was shot in a drive-by shooting on Pinebluff Lake Road outside of Aberdeen Monday.
The man was driving on Highway 15-501 near Pinebluff Lake Road when the shooting occurred around 4:15 p.m., according to officials on the scene. He continued driving and stopped his truck on 15-501 South at the intersection with Heflin Road.
“Sheriff’s investigators are currently working to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting and identify the persons involved,” said Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields in a press release the next day. “At this time, it is not believed that the motorist was the intended target of the shooting.”
The man suffered a gunshot wound to the hand and was transported to the hospital in stable condition.
The Chevrolet Silverado truck had the driver’s side window shot out, and the driver’s side mirror had a hole where a bullet had pierced it. The passenger window was shattered but remained intact with a single bullet hole. The truck and surrounding area were cordoned off with police tape as law enforcement worked the scene.
Officers wearing tactical gear and carrying rifles had the road blocked off.
