Herbert Wayne Martin, 80 of West End, passed away on October 6, 2018 at his home.

Born on March 3, 1938 in Moore County to the late Jesse and Mary Martin. Herbert was a 1956 graduate of West End High School. He married the love of his life, Edith Vest on July 7, 1957. Shortly after getting married he served proudly in the US Army from 1957-1959. Herbert spent most of his life working in the furniture framing industry. After retirement, he enjoyed working in his yard, bailing andraking pine straw. He was a very talented woodworking craftsman, making many gifts for family and friends. Herbert was a quiet man, but more than anything he enjoyed having his family all around him.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an infant son, David Earl; one brother, Cecil Martin and three sisters, Earline Walker, Frances Jordan and Betty Boroughs.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Edith Vest Martin; two daughters, Teresa Martin Batalla and Tammy Martin Horne (James); one brother, Charles Martin; three sisters, Esther Thomas (Wayne), Nancy Boroughs (Otis) and Lois Rankin; four grandchildren, Leti Violette (Danny), Naythan Batalla, Ethan and Kacie Horne; also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends that he considered family which include two special girls, Laura Hancock and Kimber Pickler who referred to him as “Papa”.

A visitation will be held on Monday, October 8, 2018 from 6:00-8:00PM at Boles Funeral Home in Seven Lakes. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at 2:00PM at Culdee Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive family and friends in the church fellowship hall following the graveside service.

Memorial donations may be made in Herbert’s name to FirstHealth Hospice Foundation 150 Applecross Road Pinehurst, NC 28374.
