Straw barn destroyed in fire

Multiple departments in Moore County responded to what started as an outside fire Tuesday afternoon near Vass.

Around 5:30 p.m., Cypress Pointe Fire Department and North Carolina Forest Service were dispatched to an outside fire behind a residence in the 300 block of Furr Road near Pine Drive.

Shortly after, a structure fire response was dispatched due to a large, open barn being on fire that was used to store multiple bales of pine straw and lawn equipment. The barn, equipment in front of it, and a majority of the straw were a total loss.

Firefighters were on scene for over two hours knocking down the fire and checking hot spots in the straw.

A plow from N.C. Forest Service was brought in, and a line was placed around the area of the fire to keep it from spreading to the woods and nearby mobile homes.

There were no injuries reported.

Moore County Fire Marshal was on scene investigating the fire.

Responding to the scene were Cypress Pointe Fire Department, Southern Pines Fire Department, Whispering Pines Fire Department, Crains Creek Fire Department, Carthage Fire Department, N.C. Forest Service, Moore County Public Safety, Moore County EMS and Moore County Sheriff’s Office.
