Teens charged in armed home invasion case

In May, the Pinehurst Police Department responded to a home on Murdocksville Road in Pinehurst about an armed home invasion. A juvenile was home alone at the time and reported that three masked males entered the residence through the back door and were armed with handguns.

The suspects allegedly threatened the juvenile with a handgun and proceeded to take items from the residence, including a rifle, according to a statement issued to Sandhills Sentinel from Pinehurst Police Department. The suspects then fled from the residence. Detectives with the Pinehurst Police Department immediately responded to the residence to begin their investigation.

On Dec. 14, detectives with the Pinehurst Police Department charged 19-year-old Cameron McNeil, from Southern Pines, with felony breaking and entering, breaking and entering with intent to terrorize, second-degree kidnapping, larceny of a firearm, possession of a stolen firearm, larceny after breaking and entering, assault by pointing a gun, and communicating threats. McNeil was taken into custody by the Southern Pines Police Department.

A 14-year-old juvenile has also been arrested with similar charges in this case.

McNeil is currently held in the Moore County Detention Center under a $500,000 secure bond with a pending court date.

“The Pinehurst Police Department would like to thank the Southern Pines Police Department for their assistance in this case,” said the Pinehurst Police Department in a press release.

Defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
