Car crashes into Chick-fil-A truck causing highway closure

A collision between a Chick-fil-A tractor-trailer and a car shut down part of U.S. Highway 1 near Vass Sunday afternoon. The two-vehicle accident happened around 5 p.m. at the intersection of Church Drive.

According to officials on the scene and a witness, a Chrysler passenger car was allegedly southbound and driving recklessly.

When the driver of the car attempted to pass the Kenworth tractor-trailer on the left, the car overcorrected off the shoulder of the road.

The car spun around and collided with the driver-side rear of the trailer before skidding back around the rear and coming to a stop over 300 feet away.

Both southbound lanes of Highway 1 were shut down briefly while crews worked the scene, and then one lane was reopened to allow traffic to flow.

Both the Chrysler’s male driver and female passenger were transported to Moore Regional Hospital with unknown injuries.

Both occupants of the Kenworth were also transported to the hospital to be checked out.

N.C. Highway Patrol was on the scene investigating the crash.
