A fiery crash in Eagle Springs claimed the life of a man Wednesday.

First responders were called to the 2600 block of Bensalem Church Road around 6 p.m., arriving to a vehicle fully engulfed in flames.

Authorities say the male driver of a Ford pickup truck ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected, and crossed the road into several trees. The truck caught on fire after the crash.

Firefighters say they are unsure how Donnie Sanders, 29, of Eagle Springs, got out of the vehicle and that a neighbor pulled him away from the burning truck.

UNC AirCare was dispatched, and Moore County paramedics did CPR on the driver, but he died from his injuries before he could be airlifted to a trauma center. Sanders was the only occupant of the vehicle.

The road was closed while The North Carolina State Highway Patrol investigated the crash. According to troopers, speed was a factor.

Eagle Springs Fire and Rescue, Robbins Fire and Rescue, Moore County EMS, UNC AirCare, Moore County Sheriff’s Department, and NC State Highway Patrol responded to the scene.
