During a Special Council Meeting on May 5, the Foxfire Village Council voted to discontinue repair work and remove the village pool.
“This decision was not made lightly, said Mayor Janice Gregorich on the Village’s website. “Considerable time and effort were dedicated to evaluating the current condition of the partially repaired pool. During that process, additional structural failures were identified, and the pool failed a required pressure test. As a result, the State and the Moore County Health Department determined that the project now qualifies as a renovation rather than a repair. Official notice of this determination was received from the Health Department on the morning of May 5, 2026.
“The renovation classification triggers additional requirements, including engineering reports, in-depth regulatory reviews, and significantly increased project costs. Due to the structure’s age and the substantial expense involved, the pool has never been considered a viable candidate for a full renovation.”
The motion made at the meeting was to go no further with the pool, remove the pool, and move on to other recreational options.
Gregorich said council members Kevin Robbins, Stephen Gunn, and Mary Gilroy voted yes. When it was time for Gregorich’s vote, she said, “I only vote yes and agree because it is determined to be a renovation.”
Member Chris Kragel voted no.
“I have asked the Health Department to provide additional details regarding the timing and specifics of the renovation determination, and that information will be shared as soon as it is received.
“Please know that this was a very difficult decision for the Council. We remain committed to involving residents in discussions regarding the future of recreational space and to providing an enjoyable environment for all Foxfire Village residents.”
