Man arrested after chase ends with four crashes

Around 8 p.m. Thursday, a Moore County Sheriff Deputy attempted to pull over a white Lexus for speeding in the Highway 24/27 area of Cameron.

The driver, Devonne Daniels, began to flee the deputy beginning a chase that went on to U.S. 1 just south of Crains Creek Road where the driver rear-ended a vehicle.

Daniels stopped his car. As the deputy began to get out of his vehicle, he fled the scene, according to the Moore County Sheriff’s Office.

He traveled south on U.S 1 towards Air Tool Drive in Southern Pines where he struck a UPS truck. After continuing to Midland Road, he then struck another car. 

The suspect took the chase toward the Pennsylvania Ave. southbound ramp when he lost control and wrecked his vehicle. 

Daniels, 26, of Winston-Salem, was arrested at the scene after being evaluated by EMS. He was charged with flee/elude arrest with a motor vehicle, hit/run injury, resisting public officer, two counts of hit and run property damage, reckless driving-wanton, possession of marijuana greater than 1/2 oz. to 1 1/2 oz., possession of marijuana paraphernalia, maintaining vehicle/dwelling place controlled substance, reckless driving to endanger, and driving while impaired.

There were minor injuries reported in the accidents during the hit and runs.

He was placed at the Moore County Detention Center under a $26,000 bond, has a court date for Feb. 4, and is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
