Crash with Food Lion truck claims life

An accident involving a Food Lion semi-truck has claimed the life of a local man on Monday.

The two-vehicle crash happened at the intersection of Highway 22 and McCaskill Road shortly before 1:30 p.m.

So far into the investigation, officials on scene with the N.C. State Highway Patrol tell Sandhills Sentinel it appears a Ford F-150 was traveling southbound on Highway 22. As it approached the intersection, a northbound Food Lion semi-truck attempted to turn left onto McCaskill Road and hit the F-150 on the driver’s side.

First responders worked carefully for nearly 45 minutes to extricate Frank Ringelberg out of the F-150. UNC Air Care was dispatched, and a landing zone was set up at Moore County Regional Airport.

During transport, EMTs decided to cancel the air transport and took the patient to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital. After initial treatment at FirstHealth, he was transferred by helicopter to UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill. Ringelberg died hours later.

The driver of the Food Lion semi-truck was uninjured in the crash. Authorities say charges are pending against the semi-truck driver.

Responding to the scene were Southern Pines Fire Department, Carthage Fire Department, Whispering Pines Fire Department, Eastwood Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Department, Moore County Public Safety, and N.C. State Highway Patrol.
