Audrey B. Rommel died on February 10, 2019 at the age of 91 surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of Charles Rommel whom she married in 1949. Charles preceded her death in August 2017. She was the loving mother of Gayle (Mrs. David Richey) and son, Kurt Rommel (married to Lynne L. Rommel). She was the cherished grandmother of Kevin Richey (and wife Aileen Richey) of Chicago, IL; Bryan Richey (and wife Danielle Richey) of Denver CO; Kyle Rommel (and wife Katy Roege Rommel) of Apex, NC; Derek Rommel of East Elmhurst, NY and Jeremy Rommel of Austin, TX. She was also the great grandmother of Leo, Noble, and Violet Richey, sons and daughter of Kevin and Aileen Richey. Two sisters and three brothers in law preceded her in death. 

Audrey was born in Adel, Iowa, November 7, 1927 to Chester H. and Irene Currie Bailey. She grew up in Omaha, Nebraska. She attended the University of Omaha for two years where she was President of Phi Delta Psi social sorority. She was Queen of Job’s Daughters, Bethel #13 in Omaha, NE. She graduated from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She was inducted into Psi Chi, the Psychology Honorary. She was initiated into the P.E.O. Sisterhood in Canton Ohio and served as President of her Chapter CQ for two years. At the time of her death she was an active member of P.E.O. Chapter BL of Pinehurst, NC.

As her husband’s career transferred the family a number of times, the family lived in Atlanta where the home office was located, moved to Philadelphia, back to Atlanta and then to Cleveland, Ohio where they lived in Chagrin Falls until retirement. Audrey enjoyed volunteering and while the children were in school, she volunteered in their schools as a classroom tutor and assistant. In the Atlanta and Boston area, she also was a Hospital Volunteer in the local hospitals. When the transfer took them to Cleveland, Ohio, where they lived in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, Audrey took an ”empty nest” job working in a dental practice as a receptionist/assistant for 20 years.

The family were active in their churches and Audrey was a Deacon in the Federated Church in Chagrin Falls, Ohio and assisted in other Sunday Schools.

When retirement brought them to Pinehurst, Audrey was active in PCC golf leagues of WGA and Birdies, ESU, P.E.O. Chapter BI, Newcomers and other social activities.

Memorial services will be held at Community Presbyterian Church on February 16, 2019 at 1pm. Any memorial contributions may be directed to the P.E.O. Sisterhood (Chapter BL) for the Educational Scholarship Fund or to Community Presbyterian Church for their Scholarship Fund. 

Services are entrusted to Boles Funeral Home of Pinehurst.
