Harold Burgess Fowler, 100, of Southern Pines died Sunday April 29, 2018 at Peak Resources- Pinelake in Carthage. Harold was predeceased by his wife Odelle McLeod Fowler in 2009, his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Harold was a WWII Army veteran and served in the Battle of the Bulge. He owned Fowler Electrical Company in Southern Pines from 1949-1981. He then worked for the Town of Southern Pines as the electrical inspector until he retired. He was a volunteer fireman from 1937-1969, serving eight of those years as fire chief in the 1950’s. He was a life member of the Southern Pines Elks Club and the American Legion Post 350. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Southern Pines for 88 years where he served faithfully in the choir and several times as a deacon and on the board of trustees. He was a character and made everyone laugh at his antics and jokes! His ladies will miss him!
Surviving is a son Harold McLeod Fowler (Jan) of Southern Pines, daughter Marilyn Fowler Neely (Harry) of Southern Pines, grandchildren Christopher McLeod Fowler, Kelly Ruth Hannahs Fowler and John Jackson Neely (Elizabeth), great granddaughter Hannah Elizabeth Neely.
A funeral service will be held at 2 PM Thursday May 3 at the First Baptist Church of Southern Pines with Dr. David Helms and Dr. Tom Allen officiating. Following the service, family and friends will gather in the church fellowship hall for a reception. Interment will follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
The family would like to thank the people at Peak Resources-Pinelake in Carthage and Brookdale Senior Living in Pinehurst for taking such excellent care of him the last few years.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church, 200 East New York Ave, Southern Pines, NC 28387 or to your favorite charity.
