James Brogden Womble, III, 78, of Ashley Heights and Lumberton, passed suddenly at his home on Sunday, December 29, 2024.
Born in Moore County, February 11, 1946, he was the son of the late J.B. Womble, Jr and Helen Deloache Womble. Jim was a proud graduate of N.C State University and an avid Wolfpack fan. After graduating, he moved to Lumberton and started a career with R. J. Reynolds that lasted over 30 years. Jim spent his time between his homes in Lumberton and Ashley Heights, always making time for his annual fishing trip to Ocracoke.
After his retirement in the 1990’s, Jim was able to spend more time pursuing social endeavors, spending time at the beach, shag dancing, enjoying parties with family and friends. He had been a member of the Sandhills Photography Club, enjoyed the Moore County Historical Society and always made time to attend school events and sporting games with his family.
Jim was the father of Ashley, husband Todd Nicholson of Pinehurst and Charlie Womble of Aberdeen. He was the grandfather of Andrew Brogden Womble and Cooper Molloy. Jim leaves behind a devoted companion, Melissa Andersen. He is survived by his sister Gail Raynor, nieces Kelly Raynor and Whitney Raynor. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Brenda Womble Davis. In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by his brother David Ashley Womble.
A celebration of his life will be held at the Boles Funeral Home, 425 W. Pennsylvania Ave. Southern Pines on Friday, January 3rd at 4:00 pm. The family will receive friends prior to the ceremony from 3:00 – 4:00 pm.
