Louis (Lou) Clay went to be with the Lord on January 13, 2018 at the Reid Heart Center in Pinehurst. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, January 20 at 2 pm at The Village Chapel.

Lou was born on August 9, 1930, in Lynchburg, Virginia to Lewis and Katherine Clay. He received his primary and secondary education in the Lynchburg School System. He attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute and graduated from the University of Arizona in 1957 with a BS degree in Civil Engineering. He joined the U.S. Marine Corp. in 1948 and served until receiving an honorable discharge as a Staff Sgt. In 1952.

His career included Vice President of Operations of Babcock and Wilcox Automated Machine Tool Division and President of Ipsen Industries in Rockford, Illinois.

In Pinehurst, he was an active member of The Village Chapel. He attended Community Bible Study for 22 years.

He served on the Drug Free Moore County Board and served as President of the Pinehurst Planning and Zoning Board. He was also a member of The Tin Whistles.

He is survived by his wife Nancy of 39 years, children Sandra Johnston and Kathy Kraetzer (Klaus) both of Rockford, Ill. Sam (Faith) of Pinehurst, also survived by 2 stepchildren Tim Crull (Leah) and Todd (Cheri) both of Rockford, Illinois. 9 Grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, and one brother, Ed Clay of Supply, NC.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
