Nearly 70 miles of central North Carolina roadways will be improved thanks to several contracts recently awarded by the N.C. Department of Transportation. The projects call for milling and resurfacing and, in most locations, shoulder grading or reconstruction, said NCDOT on Thursday. They are all either getting underway or set to begin as early as May 1.
In Moore County, 2.2 miles of U.S. 1. will be worked on. Fred Smith Company was awarded a $1.16 million contract, and the work is scheduled to be complete by mid-November 2021. In February, NCDOT announced a $2.86 million contract was awarded to Fred Smith Company for nearly 14 miles composed of parts of U.S. 1 and U.S. 15-501 and eight sections of secondary roads. In addition, NCDOT announced Thursday construction will begin for 23.4 miles along seven sections of U.S. 64 and eight sections of secondary roads in Randolph County. The $4.45 million contract was awarded to the Thompson Arthur division of APAC Atlantic Inc. Work is slated to last through July 2022.
In Randolph County, nearly 19 miles along 10 sections of secondary roads will be under construction. The Thompson Arthur division of APAC Atlantic Inc. was awarded the $3.15 million contract. Work is expected to be complete by late June 2022.
In Randolph County, nearly 23.1 miles across eight sections of secondary roads will be improved. Blythe Construction Inc. was awarded the $3.09 million contract. Work is expected to be completed by late June 2022.
