Neil Robert Coté, Age 85, passed away on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at his home in Foxfire Village, North Carolina.
He was born in Detroit, Michigan on November 25, 1932 to Myron and Dorothy Coté, was a 1951 graduate of Pershing High School, and served in the US Army during the Korean War. He married Virginia Genevieve Alcini August 19, 1965. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Wayne State University, and a Master’s degree in Education from Michigan State University. His career as an elementary school teacher and research center director spanned both the Detroit and Utica Community School systems mentoring and inspiring many young lives.
After vacationing in Pinehurst in 1976, he and his wife built a home in Foxfire Village, and retired there in 1991 to enjoy his passion for golf. Neil was a man of great faith who served his beloved Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, as an usher, extraordinary minister to the sick, perpetual adorer since its beginning in 1984, and a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Council 11103, eventually honored by being a Grand Knight.
He is preceded in death by his mother, father, and mother-in-law Genevieve Alcini, and survived by his loving wife, Virginia, daughter, Lynne Marie (Oro Valley, Arizona), and son, Andrew (Joan) and two grandchildren, Natalie and Jared (Lawrence, Kansas), brothers, Richard (Betty) and Joe (Gladys), sister, Ellen, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was loved by all that knew him and will be greatly missed.
A visitation will be held on Monday, June 4th, from 5:00-7:00PM at Boles Funeral Home, Pinehurst. A Funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 5th, at 11:00AM at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, with burial following at St. Anthony of Padua Cemetery.
