Police investigating shooting in downtown Aberdeen

UPDATE: Aberdeen Police Department announced on Oct. 18 that they arrested a 15-year-old juvenile from Aberdeen accused of the shooting. The teenager is facing charges of attempted first-degree murder, attempted assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, three counts of discharging a fire arm into an occupied dwelling/vehicle, injury to personal property, possession of handgun by minor, going armed to the terror of the public, assault by pointing a gun, two counts of injury to real property, and discharging a weapon in city limits. Authorities did not release the identity of the suspect.

Aberdeen Police are investigating a shooting that happened on Main Street in the downtown business district.

The incident happened on Saturday afternoon, shortly after 1 p.m., while many people were eating lunch or browsing stores near the scene.

More than 12 shell casings were seen near the railroad tracks at the intersection of West Main Street and North Sycamore Street. The intersection was shut down while investigators collected evidence.

Part of the sidewalk on Main Street was also shut down in front of a barber shop. Fragments of bullets along with damage to the building were being looked at by investigators. A door to the barber shop also had a bullet hole in the glass.

No injuries were reported at the scene.

“The suspect was described as a black male in dark clothing and a black face mask,” said Aberdeen Police Department. “The suspect got out of the driver’s side of a white sedan and was seen firing shots at a dark blue Honda Pilot.”

This is an isolated incident and is currently under investigation. Any witnesses or individuals with information can call the Aberdeen Police Department at (910)944-9721, or they can call the anonymous Tip Line at (910)944-4561.

A reward is being offered for information that leads to the apprehension and arrest of those involved.
