The Southern Pines Police Department announced in a news release an officer assigned to the department’s patrol division has tested positive of COVID-19.
“The Southern Pines Police Department currently has written directives and equipment in place to help identify and reduce the spread of COVID-19, both inside the police facility as well as in the community,” said Captain Charles Campbell.
Local health officials are working with the police department on contact tracing.
Due to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, the officer’s name was not released.
