A woman suffered serious injuries in an auto accident during the rain on Wednesday evening. The single-vehicle accident occurred just outside Pinehurst near the intersection of Linden Road and Linden Trail at 7 p.m.
The vehicle was traveling away from town on Linden Road when the driver ran off the right-hand side of the road. The Mazda CX-7 slammed into a tree and stopped in the road. The vehicle suffered extensive damage.
Another driver stopped and stayed with the victim until emergency crews arrived on the scene. The driver had trauma to her lower extremities, and emergency crews requested a helicopter to medevac the patient to a trauma center. Due to weather conditions, the helicopter could not fly, and the woman was transported by EMS to Firsthealth Moore Regional.
Linden Road was completely shut down. The Highway Patrol was on the scene and is investigating the cause of the accident.
Responding to the scene were Pinehurst Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, Pinehurst Police, and N.C. Highway Patrol.
