Man arrested for threatening to 'shoot everyone' at courthouse

Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields announced the arrest of one person following an investigation in Carthage.

During the morning hours of June 2, the Moore County Clerk of Superior Court’s Office was contacted via telephone, and the caller threatened to come to the facility and “shoot everyone.”

Sheriff’s deputies and Carthage police officers immediately responded and began investigating. Within a short period of time, a suspect had been identified, and deputies immediately began attempting to locate the person.

By the afternoon, deputies arrested Deandre Mathis, 30, of Fayetteville. Mathis was charged with one count of threatening to kill or inflict serious injury on court officers. Mathis is currently being held at the Moore County Detention Center under a $1,000,000 secure bond pending a first court appearance in Moore County district court on June 15 and is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
