David Allan Bergstrom, age 83, died Sunday, April 8, 2018 at St. Joseph of the Pines in Southern Pines.
Funeral Services will be held at 10am on Friday, April 13, 2018, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Southern Pines with Msgr. Jeffrey Ingham officiating.
David was born September 30, 1934 in Waco, Texas to the late Delwin V. and Ruth C. Bergstrom. He was a 1956 graduate of Miami University in Oxford, OH, where he was a member of the Alpha Chapter of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. Following graduation, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. Following his military service, David began a 17 year career with Reynolds Metals Company. During this period, he was an active Mason and achieved the 32nd Degree. David married Lane Whitman in 1974, and joined the Alcan Aluminum Corporation in Cleveland, OH. They later moved to St. Louis, MO, where he was Vice President of Marketing for the Metal Goods Division. Upon retirement, David and Lane moved to North Carolina and enjoyed the Pinehurst Country Club, where they had belonged since 1977. David was also a member of the Tin Whistles and the Military Officers Association of America.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Lane Whitman Bergstrom, his children, Andrea Bergstrom Serros of San Clemente, CA, Cynthia Bergstrom of Grandy, CO, David M. Bergstrom of La Dera Ranch, CA, Robert D. “Bo” Willis of Santa Barbara, CA, and a sister, Sandra Cady Teckenbrock of La Quinta, CA, 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, P.O. Box 1525, Ranson, WV 25438, or the donor’s favorite charity.
