Two transported after vehicles collide, strike pole in Carthage

Two people were transported following a crash involving a truck and an SUV in Carthage. The crash occurred shortly before 8 a.m. Monday morning on Union Church Road.

According to a state trooper at the scene, a white SUV was traveling westbound when the driver failed to slow down for a vehicle ahead that was turning into a driveway. To avoid the situation, the SUV veered left, then into the center of the road, where it collided with an oncoming truck.

The driver of the truck reportedly had little to no time to react and was unable to brake before impact, then crashed into a nearby utility pole. The SUV went off-road and came to a stop on a nearby lawn.

The truck sustained significant damage to the front end.

Emergency responders arrived shortly after and assessed both drivers at the scene. The injuries were reported as minor, though both individuals were transported to a local hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

The force of the crash caused major damage to both vehicles. The SUV sustained heavy damage to its front end and passenger side, and its airbags deployed upon impact. Having struck the pole, the front end of the truck was left with heavy damage as well.
