Mail carrier saves packages fire

Just before 2 p.m. Thursday, authorities received a call for a vehicle fire in the 100 block of Rice Road, 7 miles outside of Vass.

The interior of the vehicle was burning upon arrival, according to Crains Creek Fire Department. The SUV belonged to a mail carrier. 

The carrier was able to safely remove the mail and packages from the vehicle.

There were no injuries in the incident.

The exact cause of the fire is under investigation at this time. 

Responding to the scene were Crains Creek Fire and Rescue, Moore County EMS, and NC State Highway Patrol.
