Bicyclist airlifted after collision with car

A female motorcyclist was airlifted Sunday morning after being involved in a traffic accident in Southern Pines. The accident occurred at 11 a.m. at the intersection of Murray Hill Road and Highway 1.

When emergency crews arrived on the scene, they found the motorcyclist lying in the road with her Kawasaki motorcycle nearby. She had crashed into the side of a Nissan Rogue.

Air care was dispatched to the ball field at Memorial Park on Morganton Road while Southern Pines firefighters set up a landing zone at the field. EMS transported the patient to the ball field, and UNC Tarheel 2 transported the patient to a trauma center.

An occupant of the Nissan was evaluated by paramedics and later transported to the hospital with nonlife threatening injuries. The condition of the motorcyclist is unknown at this time.

Southern Pines Police are investigating the cause of the accident. Traffic was rerouted while emergency crews worked.

Responding to the scene were Southern Pines Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, Southern Pines Police, and Aberdeen Police.
