Car hits restaurant in Carthage

A call came into 911 just after 3:30 p.m. on Monday that a car had hit Pete’s Family Restaurant in Carthage.

An elderly couple was pulling into the parking spot when the man accidentally hit the gas, causing the vehicle to jump the curb and hit the building. The couple bought the vehicle the same day as the accident.

The couple was not injured, and no one was injured in the restaurant.

“Luckily, no one was at that table,” an employee told Sandhills Sentinel. The employee also said pictures were still hanging on the wall where the most damage was.

Carthage Fire Department said, “The building inspector OK’d the building, and Pete does not have to close.”

The impact caused the window to break and put a large hole in the wall. Very little front bumper damage was caused to the vehicle.

Responding to the scene were Carthage Police Department, Carthage Fire and Rescue, Moore County Public Safety, and Moore County Building Code Office.
