One airlifted after accident near Robbins

The driver of a pickup truck was airlifted to a hospital after an accident near Robbins. 

The accident happened in the 700 block of Howard Mill Road about four miles outside of Robbins on Monday just after 9 p.m.

A Ford pickup was traveling toward Highway 705 when it appeared to cross the centerline and slammed into an embankment before coming to rest at the top of the embankment on its side. 

Firefighters had to stabilize the truck before removing the driver.

UNC Air Care landed in a field at the scene. The male driver was flown to a trauma center. His condition is unknown at this time. 

A portion of Howard Mill Road was closed for an extended time while the wreckage was cleared. 

The accident is being investigated by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Responding to the scene were High Falls Fire and Rescue, Moore County EMS, and State Highway Patrol.
