One airlifted after rollover crash

A driver was airlifted after being involved in a single-vehicle rollover crash near the Seven Lakes community on Monday. The wreck happened on McKenzies Mill Road just after 6 p.m.

First responders arrived to a vehicle that had flipped onto its driver’s side, and they had to knock out the windshield to be able to remove the female driver. Moore County EMS transported her to the Seven Lakes Fire Department, where a landing zone for UNC Carolina Air Care was set up. The patient was loaded into the helicopter and flown to a trauma center.

N.C. Highway Patrol investigating the crash said that tire marks on the shoulder of the road indicate that the driver crossed the centerline and went off the left shoulder. The driver then overcorrected, causing the vehicle to go off the right shoulder, hit a ditch, flip over, and collide with several trees. Troopers said they believed speed was a factor.

The driver is thought to have non-life-threatening injuries.

Seven Lakes Drive was shut down when Air Care landed and took off from the Seven Lakes Fire Department. McKenzies Mill Road was closed while the scene was investigated and cleared.
